What is an Aclasta infusions?
Aclasta infusions are a common treatment for osteoporosis in NZ. Normally, someone with osteoporosis will have one Aclasta infusion per year. This helps improve bone density in people whose level have declined.
If you have osteoporisis you will already know that your bones are thinner and weaker and therefore more prone to fractures or breaks.
The other name for this infusion is Zolendronate Acid. Also, an Aclasta Infusion might be called a Zometa Infusion. These infusions can also support people with Paget’s disease.
What to expect when you get an Aclasta infusion for osteoporosis
- Typically, a infusion takes about 15 – 30 minutes.
- Our nurses are skilled at giving you the treatment
- The Zolendronate Acid Infusion is administered as a drip.
- Before you come, have a couple of glasses of water. Similarly ensure you drink at least another couple after your treatment so that you don’t get dehyrated.
- If you have any future dental treatment, do let your dentist know you’ve had an Aclasta infusion. Sometimes there is a side effect from Aclasta infusions which can affect healing in the mouth.
How to get an Aclasta infusion for osteoporosis at East Care
Before you get an Aclasta Infusion, you will need to see your GP or Specialist Endocrinologist.
They will ensure you have had a recent osteoporosis check and any necessary tests. This includes the DEXA bone density scan.

To join our clinic, you first need to fill out the patient enrolment forms to register with the PHO that we belong to. This is a Ministry of Health requirement. You will need to provide proof of identity and eligibility which may include the following forms of identification:
- NZ Passport or NZ birth certificate
- International passport with resident visa OR work visa of minimum 24-month duration
On the enrolment form you need to indicate which of our doctors (currently taking new patients) that you would like to be registered with.
Yes. As part of completing your enrollment, we request that you have a new patient screening appointment with one of our Nursing or Medical Centre Assistant team members.
This new patient appointment enables our team to work with you to better understand your current health and wellbeing.
Following the new patient appointment as above, you can book your first consultation with your nominated doctor.
