How to know if you have an eye infection

If you’ve notices a sticky, pink or gritty feeling in your eye, you might have the symptoms of a bacterial eye infection or conjunctivitis. Above all, Conjunctivitis is the most common eye condition that causes pink and itchy eyes. Also, it is known as ‘pink eye’.

Does this sound like your eye symptoms?

  • Have your eyes been unusually  itchy or hurting?
  • Are your eyes extra sensitive to light and producing a lot of pus?
  • You’ve been suffering from allergies recently
  • been unwell with a virus?
  • experienced a scratch to the eye or a foreign body is in the eye.

Furthermore, if you are worried about tamariki, watch out for them rubbing their eyes or having discharge or pinkness. Importantly, get them to see a GP and don’t send them to school. Remember, conjunctivitis is contageous.

If the infection is the result of an accident, we will help you with ACC forms.
